Xin & Astrid

Weixin Quek Chong is a visual artist who works through developing objects, images and environments where nonverbal sensorialities are the main expressive focus- allowing one to bypass/ trespass verbal and rational logics. Their artistic practice explores metamorphosis- from transformations in the biodiverse world to the ways humans and nonhuman beings translate themselves in order to exist in community. Through interrogating aesthetic expressions of propriety and subversion, and legacies of displacement and transitions, they explore fears and desires that lie behind societal pressures and currencies. Weixin's work has been presented in exhibitions at the Sala de Arte Joven, Madrid (Spain); MMCA Goyang (Korea), Tainan Art Museum (Taiwan), NTU-CCA Singapore and the Singapore Art Museum amongst many others. They live and are based in Madrid, working regularly between Madrid, London and Singapore.

Astrid Tetsche Sweeney is a Danish/Irish performer and choreographer interested in interrogating movement through stasis, stimulus and isolation of individual body parts.

Her recent work questions and distorts the perspective we have on the femme body through investigating forms of motion that could be considered otherly or uncanny. In her current explorations, Astrid is researching the space between what is skin and what is prosthetic, and how this is perceived by the body. Her movement inquiry references the tactile sensing and mechanoreceptive sensilla of insects; how they collect encoded information via physical touch, through sensory limbs such as antennae or feelers. Her sources of inspiration include the adaptive resilience and diversity of nature, queer ecology, science fiction, and Feldenkrais-inspired somatic movement techniques.

Astrid’s first encounter with dance was through training and competing as a traditional irish dancer. She was accepted into the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in 2012 and upon graduation joined Scottish Dance Theatre. She has since moved her base to Brussels and has been part of various projects as a freelancer, having worked with Iván Pérez (ES), La Verita Dance Company (BE), Luke Murphy (IE), Alexander Vantournhout (BE), Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui (BE) and Damien Jalet (BE).
